Launch of MITHOS: Advancing Multimodal Infrastructure Management in Europe

We are pleased to announce the official launch of MITHOS, an ambitious European initiative funded by Horizon Europe and coordinated by Ceit Research Center.

Over the next four years, the project will bring together 14 organizations from seven countries to develop advanced AI-powered tools and federated data solutions aimed at transforming multimodal transport infrastructure management across Europe.

MITHOS will focus on improving safety, efficiency, resilience, and sustainability in transport networks through innovation, data integration, and cross-sector collaboration.

The project’s solutions will be validated through pilot implementations in four strategic locations:

  • Bilbao (Spain) – Use the river as an inland waterway to boost multimodal freight and passenger transport.
  • Hamburg (Germany) – Redesign intersections to improve safety for cyclists, e-scooters, and pedestrians.
  • Vienna / Linz (Austria) – Integrate bus services with the new metro line for more efficient urban mobility.
  • Thessaloniki (Greece) – Apply AI-based predictive maintenance for roads, bridges, and cycling nfrastructure.

The Launch and Kick-Off of MITHOS mark the beginning of an exciting four-year journey. By combining artificial intelligence, federated data architectures, and cross-border collaboration, the consortium will work toward safer, smarter, and more sustainable multimodal mobility systems across Europe.
